Dear faithful brothers and sisters,

This Saturday, the Holy Armenian Apostolic Church commemorates the Feast of the Twelve Apostles and the 13th Apostle, Saint Paul.

The Twelve Apostles are: Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Matthias (who was chosen to replace Judas Iscariot after his betrayal).

Paul was not one of Christ’s original disciples. He was a persecutor of Christians, known as Saul. During one of his missions to persecute Christians, while traveling to Damascus, a bright light shone around him, and he fell to the ground. A voice called out, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” Saul replied, “Who are you, Lord?” and the voice answered, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.”

Thus, the one who once persecuted Christians—Saul—was transformed into Paul, becoming one of the greatest preachers of Christianity.

The role of the Apostles in the life of the Universal Church is immeasurable. After receiving the Holy Spirit, they began to speak in various tongues and spread the Gospel of Christ throughout nearly the entire world known to them, establishing the first churches.

Peter and Paul founded the See of Rome; Andrew established the Church of Constantinople; Thomas preached in Malabar, India; and Thaddeus and Bartholomew founded the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Our Church considers Thaddeus and Bartholomew the first Illuminators of the Armenian people, as through them the light of God reached our nation. The Apostle Thaddeus brought with him the Holy Lance that had pierced Christ’s side. Today, it is regarded as one of the most sacred relics of the Armenian Apostolic Church and is kept at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

The lives of the Apostles were not easy. They endured many persecutions, and except for John, all were martyred. This reminds us that the true path is not smooth—our faith will be constantly tested. Only humility, willpower, compassion, and steadfast faith in God can help us live a righteous and God-pleasing life.

Սիրելի հավատացյալ եղբայրներ և քույրեր,

Այս շաբաթ օրը Հայ Առաքելական Սուրբ Եկեղեցին նշում է Տասներկու առաքյալների և տասներեքերորդ առաքյալ Սուրբ Պողոսի տոնը։

Տասներկու առաքյալներն են՝ Պետրոսը, Անդրեասը, Հակոբոսը, Հովհաննեսը, Փիլիպպոսը, Բարդուղիմեոսը, Թովմասը, Մատթեոսը, Հակոբոս Ալփևինը, Սիմոն Կանանացին և Մատաթիան (ով ընտրվեց Հուդա Իսկարիովտացու դավաճանությունից հետո՝ որպես տասներկուերորդ առաքյալ):

Պողոսը Քրիստոսի աշակերտը չի եղել։ Նա եղել է քրիստոնյաների հալածիչ՝ Սողոս (կամ Սավուղ) անունով։ Երբ մի անգամ հերթական հալածանքի նպատակով ուղևորվում էր Դամասկոս, ճանապարհին պայծառ լույս է փայլում, և նա ընկնում է գետնին։ Հանկարծ մի ձայն նրան հարցնում է. «Սավուղ, Սավուղ, ինչո՞ւ ես հալածում ինձ»: Սավուղը պատասխանում է. «Ո՞վ ես դու, Տե՛ր»: Եվ ձայնը պատասխանում է. «Ես Հիսուսն եմ, որին դու հալածում ես»։

Այսպիսով, քրիստոնյաներին հալածող Սողոսը վերածվում է առաքյալի՝ դառնալով քրիստոնեության ամենամեծ քարոզիչներից մեկը՝ Պողոսը։

Առաքյալների դերը Ընդհանրական Եկեղեցու համար անգնահատելի է։ Սուրբ Հոգին ստանալով՝ նրանք սկսեցին խոսել տարբեր լեզուներով և Քրիստոսի ավետարանը տարածեցին իրենց հայտնի գրեթե ամբողջ աշխարհում՝ հիմնելով առաջին եկեղեցիները։

Պետրոս և Պողոս առաքյալները հիմնադրեցին Հռոմի աթոռը, Անդրեասը՝ Կոստանդնուպոլսինը, Թովմասը՝ Հնդկաստանի Մալաբար նահանգինը, իսկ Թադեոս և Բարդուղիմեոս առաքյալները՝ Հայ Առաքելական Եկեղեցին։

Մեր Եկեղեցին Թադեոսին և Բարդուղիմեոսին համարում է հայ ժողովրդի առաջին լուսավորիչները, քանի որ նրանց միջոցով հայ ժողովուրդը լուսավորվեց Աստծո լույսով։ Թադեոս առաքյալը իր հետ բերեց Քրիստոսին խոցած սուրբ գեղարդը, որն այսօր համարվում է Հայ Առաքելական Սուրբ Եկեղեցու ամենակարևոր սրբություններից մեկը և պահվում է Մայր Աթոռ Սուրբ Էջմիածնում։

Առաքյալների կյանքը հեշտ չի եղել. նրանք շատ հալածանքներ են կրել, և Հովհաննեսից բացի բոլորը նահատակվել են։ Սա մեզ հիշեցում է, որ ճշմարիտ ճանապարհը հեշտ չէ. մեր հավատքը շարունակ փորձությունների է ենթարկվելու։ Եվ միայն խոնարհությունը, կամքի ուժը, մարդասիրությունն ու Աստծո հանդեպ անսասան հավատը կարող են օգնել մեզ ապրել ճիշտ և Աստվածահաճո կյանքով։
