St. Sargis Day Celebration

On January 23th St. Kevork Church of Portland celebrated the holiday of St. Sargis the warrior. Many young parish members along with their families attended the church service.

After the prayer service, the parish priest Rev. Father Yeremia Khachatryan explained the meaning of this holiday, and asked the Saint to pray to God for the Youth of St. Kevork Church. He also performed the blessing of the youth.

After the church ceremony traditional Armenian food (manti and dolma) was served at the church hall. This wonderful feast was prepared and served by Maro and Rubig Stepanyan and Gayane Mazmanyan.

A joyous and festive atmosphere prevailed upon St. Kevork Church that day.

Ս․Սարգիս զորավարի տոնը Պորտլանդի Ս․Գէորգ եկեղեցում

Հունվարի 23-ին Պորտլանդի Ս․Գէորգ եկեղեցում նշվեց Ս․Սարգիս զորավարի տոնը։ Տոնին ներկա էին երիտասարդները եւ իրենց ընտանիքները։

Երեկոյան աղոթքից հետո Հոգեւոր Հովիվ Տեր Երեմիա քահանա Խաչատրյանը ներկայացրեց օրվա խորհուրդը եւ խնդրեց Ս․Սարգսի բարեխոսությունը։ Վերջում կատարվեց երիտասարդների օրհնություն։

Եկեղեցական արարողությունից հետո եկեղեցու սրահում մատուցվեց հայկական ավանդական ճաշատեսակներ։ Ճաշը պատրաստված էր Ռուբիկ եւ Մարո Ստեփանյանների եւ Գայանե Մազմանյանի կողմից։

Օրը անցավ հաճելի մթնոլորտում։

 

Armenian Christmas Celebration in St. Kevork Church of Portland

St. Kevork, the Armenian Apostolic Church of Portland celebrated the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and His baptism. Many faithful Armenian believers from Portland and the neighboring cities attended the Badarak Service to celebrate the Christmas.

Holy Badarak was served by Father Yeremia Khachatryan. During the service, Father Yeremia gave a sermon on the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the end of the Badarak, the ceremony of the blessing of water was performed. Dick Ranian served as a godfather during the blessing of the water.

Before the Badarak the students of the Armenian School Hovhannes Tumanyan performed a New Year play. The play was organized by school's teachers.

After the Badarak, a wonderful meal that was prepared by the Ladies’ Society was served. A joyous and festive atmosphere prevailed upon St. Kevork Church that day.

We pray that the light of Christmas will shine in every believer’s heart. Amen.

Պորտլանդի Հայ Համայնքը նշեց մեր Տիրոջ Սուրբ Ծնունդն ու Աստվածհայտնությունը:

Եկեղեցին լեցուն էր Պորտլանդի եւ նրա հարակից շրջաններից եկած հավատացյալներով, ովքեր մասնակից եւ հաղորդակից եղան Ս.Ծննդյան տոնակատարությանը:

Christmas Party 2015

The Christmas Party of the Armenian Community of Portland

On December 19th the Armenian Community of Portland held its annual Christmas Party. The party had some nice surprises. Deacon Varoujan and Mrs. Zovinar Gazarian were awarded with the medal of, “Hay Vogi”, (Armenian Spirit) from the Primate, His Eminence Hovnan Arch. Derderian for their services extending over three decades to the Armenian Community and to the Church. In the name of His Eminence the medal was given to them by the Parish Priest of St.Kevork Church of Portland Fr. Yeremia Khachatryan.

The participants had a wonderful time in a family-friendly warm atmosphere.

We wish you all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and pray that the light of the birth of our Lord may warm up your souls. Amen.

Saint Kevork Pilgrimage Day

On Saturday, September 26, St. Kevork Apostolic Church of Oregon celebrated the holiday of St. Kevork as its annual pilgrimage day.

On that day guest pilgrims from the Holy Resurrection Church of Seattle and their Parish Priest Fr. Yeghia Isayan visited St. Kevork Church of Oregon. After a brief church service, Fr. Yeremia Khachadryan welcomed all the guests who came from Seattle. Afterwards, he gave a sermon on Holy Miuron and its importance in the Armenian Apostolic Church. Fr. Yeghia Essayan talked about St. Kevork’s faith, his conduct, his character, his virtuous life and his devotion to God, and talked about the meaning of covenant, about sainthood and the intercession of saints.  He also encouraged the parishioners to follow the example of the Saint.

After the church service, a “madagh” food that was prepared by the Ladies’ Society of St. Kevork Church was served.

All pilgrims celebrated the Saint’s holiday in a joyous atmosphere like a one happy family. Encouraged by the great outcome of this gathering, parishioners along with Fr. Yeremia and Fr. Yeghia, decided to plan such gatherings more often.

 

Richard G. Hovannisian lecture: "The Armenian Genocide on its Centenary: What Have We Learned?"

On Wednesday, May 6th, we had the privilege of hosting the renowned speaker Richard Hovannisian on the subject of the Armenian Genocide.   Here's the video of his lecture:
